Top Ten Tuesday #13: Top Ten DysTrumpian* Novels if Trump Becomes President

 What the Actual Fascism, America?!

We are living in a surreal point in time where Donald Trump/ Drumph could actually become president. I was all reared up to go on a rant about how Trump’s success is the result of the American government ignoring their lacklustre school system (resulting in churning out politically ignorant voters???) plus the general negative political climate in their country where people are feeling powerless and consequently supporting an ignorant, bigoted, megalomaniac bully for the Republican nominee.

But then I watched a segment on Full Frontal with Samantha Bee [click here] wherein she interviews a group of “multi-ethnic” “bi-partisan” “college educated” “Trump supporters” and I was left speechless. And with a sick feeling in my stomach, similar, I'm sure, to what the countries bordering Germany and Italy felt like a few years before WWII. (I’m writing this from Canada, btw.)

What does this have to do with The Broke and Bookish’s weekly meme: Top Ten Tuesday? Well, dear reader, because of this American craziness, all of a sudden those of us that majored in History, English, or even Political Theory (totally a thing!) finally feel relevant in today’s society, and can actually use our over-priced knowledge-base(s) in everyday conversation! THEREFORE, as this week’s Top Ten Tuesday is a freebie, and I'm a fan of The Dystopian Novel, I choose to vent about Donald Trump [and his supporters], using my strengths of being an über-reader and professional metaphorist.*

Top Ten Tuesday #11: Top Ten Books if You're in the Mood to Be Gob-Smacked!!

The weekly meme "Top Ten Tuesday" is brought to you by the awesome blog The Broke and the Bookish. Check out their blog and add your Top Ten to the group!!

This week: "The Top Ten Books When You're In the Mood for _________." So I guess my title should be "Top 10 Books When You're in the Mood for a Good Gob-Smacking*."

     gob·smacked [ˈɡäbˌsmakt/] adjective British informal
adjective: gobsmacked; adjective: gob-smacked: utterly astonished; astounded.

* Origin: 1980s: from gob1 + smack1, with reference to being shocked by a blow to the mouth, or to clapping a hand to one's mouth in astonishment.

* As if smacked ‎(“hit”) in the gob ‎(“mouth (Irish / Scottish gaelic)”).

I am a SUCKER for a well-done plot-twist, an amazing secret revealed, etc. Therefore, my list this week is my top picks of books (or series) where I literally gasped out loud, or possibly threw the book across the room … This is not to say there will be spoilers, or that there’s a TWIST in every book, but that I just appreciated that the author/s took the story in an unexpected direction.

The best example I can give is The Princess Bride (both movie and book!) William Goldman takes all the tropes of a fairy tale adventure and turns it on it’s head. Many a smack-the-gob* moments.

A Wee Note: I Un-Disqus'd...

Hello faithful follower!

Just a quick note to let you know I had "DISQUS" connected to my blog (for a week?), which would send our comments into the internet and anyone could read or comment on them. But then I got a-scared, and read some fear-mongering articles by people who were contacted by men in prison... O_O

When I disconnected Disqus it took some comments with it (which is like a monetary unit for bloggers. [E.g. Mo' comments, mo' problems, am I right?]). PLUS my sister finally commented and now there's no proof. Santa Clause also liked a post, and wrote "lo-ho-ho-l." But that was my only proof of HIS ENTIRE EXISTENCE.

I be learnin' as I be bloggin.'

Blogging Pains

Blogger Problems, 2015, yo.

So to increase my blogosphere (wow you can actually spellcheck that…) I decided to join up with Top Ten Tuesdays and Waiting for Wednesday to share my views and also take a look at what other book bloggers be bloggin’.

And there are SO MANY awesome blogs out there! Great names, designs, colour schemes, etc. And I realized that I could click their little chicklet-buttons for Facebook or Twitter to follow them, but I didn’t have that option for MY follower! (Not a typo.)

She Be Pullin' Her Hair Out

Hello, Dear Readers!

So I just spent a few hours trying to figure out how to put a CHICKLET (one of those wee buttons you can click) on my blog so that it would be easier to follow me. And the RESULT?! *drums puh-puh-pumming* is F*CK ALL.

Learning about blogging is SUPER fun. When I get famous I'll just get my lackeys to figure it out. (Or more likely, I'll just tell the computer what to do and the computer will just take some cash out of my bank account in payment...)
